The abundance of public EV charging stations is critical for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the U.S. During our test of the 2022 Mercedes EQS 450+, we relied heavily on the PlugShare app to locate available charging stations. This essential tool helped us find an EVgo fast charger, which provided a seamless charging experience.

The EQS 450+ proved to be a compelling electric luxury sedan, delivering impressive range and performance. With its 107.8-kWh battery pack, the vehicle achieves an EPA-estimated range of 350 miles on a single charge. The electric powertrain produces 329 horsepower and 417 lb-ft of torque, enabling smooth acceleration and confident highway passing.

Charging capabilities are equally impressive, with the EQS accepting up to 200 kW at compatible DC fast-charging stations. This allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 31 minutes. At home, the 9.6-kW onboard charger can fully replenish the battery in about 11.25 hours using a Level 2 charging station.

While public charging infrastructure continues to expand, the current network demonstrates both the progress and remaining challenges in America's transition to electric mobility. The EQS 450+ serves as an excellent example of how luxury EVs can deliver a premium experience while highlighting the importance of continued investment in charging infrastructure.

The success of vehicles like the EQS depends not just on their impressive capabilities, but also on the continued development of a robust and reliable charging network across the country.
