Cody McPherson achieved his third DIRTcar Sportsman Series championship in 2024, dedicating the victory to his late grandfather who introduced him to racing at age five.

McPherson dominated the Western Region, winning all three events at Ransomville, Merrittville, and Humberstone Speedways. His victory at Weedsport Speedway in the Central Region signaled his championship potential.

The championship season began with three strong top-five finishes, including a win at the Mike Bonesky Memorial. After struggling mid-season, McPherson sought advice from fellow champion Mat Williamson, who helped identify and resolve mechanical issues.

The turning point came during Malta Massive Weekend at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, where McPherson finished third. He followed this with a runner-up finish at the Chevrolet Performance 75 and fifth place at Brockville Ontario Speedway, securing the championship.

At 32, McPherson now holds the record for most DIRTcar Sportsman Series championships and leads the all-time wins list with 27 victories. His 2024 success included:

  • Western Region championship sweep
  • Track championships at Ransomville and Merrittville
  • Mike Bonesky Memorial victory
  • Consistent top-five finishes in crucial races

"One of the last things I said to him was I was going to go out and win everything I possibly could this year in honor of him, and fortunately enough, we were able to do just that," McPherson said about his grandfather, fulfilling his promise with this historic championship run.
