Colapinto's 50G Las Vegas Qualifying Crash Puts Race Participation in Doubt
Franco Colapinto experienced a severe crash during Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying, registering an impact of over 50G after hitting the concrete barrier at Turn 16 at high speed.

The incident occurred during Q2 when the Argentine driver clipped the inside wall at Turn 16 while attempting to qualify for the top-10 shootout. The collision sent his Williams car across the track into the outside barrier, causing significant damage to both the wall and the vehicle.
Williams confirmed that Colapinto's participation in Saturday's race depends on a medical evaluation. The team stated, "An impact of this magnitude is obviously significant and severe and he will need to be evaluated again tomorrow before we will know whether he is clear to race."
Despite the severity of the crash, the 21-year-old driver managed to exit the car independently. The incident caused a 20-minute delay to qualifying while crews repaired the barrier and cleared debris from the track.
The team emphasized that Colapinto's health remains the primary concern, particularly given the extreme force of impact. Williams will continue to assess both the driver's condition and the car's status, following recent heavy crashes in Brazil.
