EV Fast Charging at Highway Stops Gets Huge Expansion with GM, Mercedes Partnerships
EVs are about to get more convenient charging options on major highways, with several automakers launching partnerships with travel centers and convenience stores.
GM and EVgo have opened their first 17 fast charging stations across 13 states at Pilot and Flying J locations. These stations feature:
- Multiple charging stalls designed for EVs towing trailers
- Weather-protective canopies
- Bright lighting for safety
- Access to restrooms
- Free Wi-Fi
- Standard travel center amenities
Mercedes-Benz is taking a similar approach by partnering with Buc-ee's travel centers to expand charging accessibility, while Volvo continues implementing its charging network expansion plans announced last year.
These partnerships represent a significant step toward making EV road trips more practical by providing reliable charging infrastructure at established travel centers that already offer essential amenities for long-distance drivers.
The strategic placement of chargers at popular rest stops eliminates the need to deviate from major routes to find charging stations, addressing one of the main concerns about EV road trip capabilities.
