US Public EV Charging Network to Overtake Gas Stations by 2032
The number of public EV charging stations in the United States is projected to exceed traditional gas stations within eight years, driven by rapidly growing consumer demand and significant infrastructure investments.
EVgo Inc., which operates nearly 1,000 charging stations across the country, reports a substantial surge in fast-charging demand. "We're seeing demand for fast charging skyrocket," notes Sara Rafalson, EVgo's executive vice president. "We're continuing to build bigger and bigger stations because we need to keep up with that demand."
This growth trajectory aligns with federal initiatives aiming to create a comprehensive national charging network. The expansion is particularly crucial as major automakers increasingly shift their production lines toward electric vehicles, with many planning to go fully electric within the next decade.
The rapid deployment of charging infrastructure marks a significant milestone in the transition to electric mobility, suggesting that range anxiety – a common concern among potential EV buyers – may soon become a thing of the past.
