Alex Albon Welcomes Challenge to Benchmark Against Experienced Sainz at Williams
Formula 1 ace Alex Albon welcomes the opportunity to measure himself against incoming Williams teammate Carlos Sainz, viewing the Spaniard's arrival as a chance to showcase his true potential.
Sainz, who secured four victories with Ferrari, joins Williams for 2025 following Lewis Hamilton's move to Ferrari. For Albon, who has been with Williams since 2022, this represents a significant shift from his previous teammates Nicholas Latifi, Logan Sargeant, and Franco Colapinto.

"I like it — it's a great challenge," Albon told RACER. "Carlos is coming in with a lot of pedigree, having had a fantastic season against Charles [Leclerc]." The Thai-British driver expressed enthusiasm about finally having a benchmark teammate, noting that "it's always been a bit of a burden... because no one really knows where I stand."
Albon acknowledges Sainz's recent Ferrari experience will be invaluable to Williams' development. "What he brings to Williams is going to be really important to us," he explained, highlighting the value of Sainz's knowledge from a top-performing team.
The 28-year-old plans to maintain an open-minded approach, eager to learn from Sainz's perspective on car development and team direction. This collaboration comes at a crucial time as Williams aims to improve its position in the 2025 and 2026 seasons.
