The Springfield, Illinois native believes his racing experience has made him more well-rounded, particularly due to exposure to diverse tracks. McDermand recently demonstrated his team management capabilities at the NOS Energy Drink Chili Bowl Nationals, fielding three cars for himself, NASCAR Xfinity Series competitor Josh Bilicki, and development driver Steven Snyder Jr.

His racing journey includes a successful stint with Mounce/Stout Motorsports from 2022-2023, where he secured seven Feature wins. In 2024, with Mounce/Stout's support, McDermand achieved a career-high third-place finish in the Xtreme Outlaw points standings and won at Tulsa Speedway.

The 24-year-old driver acknowledges the challenge of balancing consistency with wins. His 2023 season saw six wins but multiple DNFs, while 2024 brought more top-five finishes but fewer victories. Looking ahead to 2025, McDermand is optimistic about his new Toyota engine package providing improved reliability.

The 2025 schedule includes races at tracks close to McDermand's Illinois home, including Farmer City Raceway, Spoon River Speedway, Coles County Speedway, and Highland Speedway. His season opener will be at Farmer City Raceway during the World of Outlaws Illini 100, scheduled for April 10-12.
