F1 Legend Eddie Jordan Dies at 76 After Cancer Battle, Industry Mourns

Formula One's beloved icon Eddie Jordan passed away in Cape Town at age 76 following a battle with aggressive prostate cancer. As founder of Jordan Grand Prix, he led his team to 250 grands prix and four victories, achieving a peak performance of third place in both drivers' and constructors' championships before selling in 2005.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali praised Jordan's "inexhaustible energy" and ability to make people smile, noting his profound impact on the sport. Former Benetton and Renault boss Flavio Briatore remembered him as "a great individual" who brought joy to the F1 paddock for decades.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner recalled his first meeting with Jordan in 1991, sharing Jordan's memorable advice: "get a good sponsor... welcome to the Piranha Club!" Horner highlighted Jordan's legendary status and irreplaceable Irish charm.

Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin (formerly Jordan Grand Prix), honored his friend of 30 years as "a true racer, a great leader, and one of the biggest characters in our sport." Team principal Andy Cowell emphasized Jordan's remarkable achievement in establishing an independent team without major manufacturer backing.

Industry leaders continued to express their condolences, with McLaren's Zak Brown praising Jordan's vibrant personality and enormous passion for Formula 1. Williams team principal James Vowles acknowledged him as a "larger-than-life character that changed the course of our sport for the better."

After his team ownership, Jordan transitioned to television punditry in 2009, where he continued to share his expertise and charismatic personality with F1 fans worldwide.
