Fonda Speedway's 2024 Season: Eight Modified Winners, New Champions, and Historic Moments

Modified action packed the 2024 season at Fonda Speedway, marking the 73rd consecutive year of competition. Despite weather-related challenges, the historic Montgomery County Fairgrounds facility delivered memorable moments and celebrated several first-time winners.

Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds featured 16 events with eight different winners. Stewart Friesen led with six victories, followed by Michael Maresca, Brian Pessolano, and Matt Sheppard with two each. Alex Yankowski, at age 20, became the youngest Modified Track Champion without a feature win.

The Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman division saw 14 events with seven different winners. Payton Talbot dominated with five wins en route to his third consecutive Track Championship. Mark Mortensen's victory placed him atop the All-Time Win List with 27 wins.

In the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stocks, Kenny Gates secured his eighth Track Championship with six wins in 13 races. Gates now sits at 98 career wins, just two shy of the century mark.

The Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman division featured 13 events with eight different winners. AJ Greco led with five wins, claiming his first career Track Championship.

Ken Hollenback dominated the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders SOHC class with nine wins, securing his 11th championship. Jay Ingersoll led the DOHC class with eight wins for his first championship.

Special events included Rocky Warner's Bill Ag Memorial Match Races victory, Demetrios Drellos's Late Model win, and Danny Varin's triumph in the Earl Halaquist Memorial ESS Sprint event.

Looking ahead, the 74th season begins with the Season Kickoff Racecar Show (March 21-23, 2025) at ViaPort Rotterdam. The track features an all-new clay surface, with practice starting April 12 and opening night set for April 19, 2025.

Fonda Speedway, located at 21 S. Bridge Street Fonda, NY 12068, continues its legacy as the "Track of Champions" with weekly Saturday night racing from April through August.
