Maini, a Formula 2 race winner, will return to Mahindra Racing where he previously served as test and reserve driver. His impressive performance at last year's Berlin rookie test, finishing fifth overall, made him an obvious choice for the team. The Indian driver expressed enthusiasm about testing the new GEN3 Evo car and building on his previous experience with the team.
O'Sullivan will make his Formula E debut with Envision Racing as part of his new role as the team's simulator driver. The British driver, who secured wins in Formula 2 at Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps last year, will compete in Japan's Super Formula series this season. He aims to maximize his learning opportunity during the test session and race week.
The rookie session is scheduled for Thursday, February 13, ahead of the doubleheader weekend at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Each of Formula E's 11 teams must run one car in the session, marking the second test of GEN3 Evo cars for non-regular drivers following the female driver test in Jarama last November.
Both teams expressed confidence in their driver selections, with Mahindra Racing CEO Frederic Bertrand praising Maini's work ethic and skill, while Envision Racing's Managing Director Sylvain Filippi highlighted O'Sullivan's impressive racing record.
