Genesis has already confirmed its entry for 2027 with the GMR-001 LMDh prototype, while McLaren ("Papaya Army") and Ford ("Blue Oval") are reportedly planning to join. Additionally, Alpine is exploring possibilities to bring its A424 to IMSA, coinciding with its planned North American road car market entry.
Key aspects of IMSA's strategy include:
- Maintaining stable regulations through 2029
- Implementing standardized components like torque sensors and common hybrid systems
- Controlled cost management
- Methodical integration of new manufacturers
Doonan emphasized the importance of aligning with automotive industry trends, particularly noting the growing strength of hybrid technology in retail sales. He stated that future powertrain and propulsion system decisions will be guided by automaker feedback and market relevance.
The expansion reflects IMSA's commitment to being "the heartbeat of the auto industry" while ensuring sustainable growth and technological advancement in the sport. The extended regulatory framework provides manufacturers with a longer runway for entry preparation and competitive development.
