Japanese racing talent Kakunoshin Ohta joins Acura Meyer Shank Racing for three major IMSA events in 2024, including the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona. The 25-year-old Honda factory driver will partner with Renger van der Zande, Nick Yelloly, and Alex Palou in the No. 93 Acura ARX-06.

Ohta will also compete in the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen and the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His selection follows an impressive performance during November's IMSA test at Daytona, where he gained valuable experience with the LMDh car after preparing in Honda Racing Corporation's simulator.
The Japanese driver brings significant experience from his home country's racing scene, having competed simultaneously in Super Formula, Super GT, and Super Taikyu for the past three years, accumulating 11 wins and 13 poles. His racing career began in Japanese F4 in 2018, where he spent three seasons before advancing to higher categories.
Team co-owner Mike Shank expressed enthusiasm about Ohta's addition, noting his strong performance during testing and smooth integration with the team. HRC executive advisor Takuma Sato highlighted this opportunity as a significant step for Japanese drivers on the global racing stage.
The 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship begins with the Roar Before the 24 (January 19-21), followed by the Rolex 24 At Daytona (January 23-26). The team's No. 60 car will be piloted by Tom Blomqvist, Colin Braun, Felix Rosenqvist, and Scott Dixon.
