Kyle Busch reflects on challenging 2024 season as historic win streak ends
NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch faced significant challenges during his 2024 season, marking one of the most difficult years in his distinguished career. For the first time since 2005, he finished outside the top 15 in championship standings, placing 20th overall.
The two-time series champion missed the postseason for the first time since 2012, managing only five top-five finishes throughout the year. This performance stands in stark contrast to his successful 2023 campaign with Richard Childress Racing, where he secured three early-season victories.

Despite several near-victories in 2024, including close finishes at Atlanta Motor Speedway (losing by 0.004s in a three-wide battle), second-place results at both Daytona and Darlington, and a late-race lead loss at Kansas Speedway, Busch couldn't secure a win. This ended his impressive 19-year streak of winning at least one race per season (2005-2023), a record that surpassed Richard Petty's 18-year streak.
The season proved particularly frustrating for Busch, who had hoped to extend his consecutive wins record to an untouchable mark. Joey Logano currently holds the closest active streak at 13 consecutive seasons with a win, highlighting the significance of Busch's now-ended record.
"It's hard to put that many good years together in a row. It's difficult," Busch reflected, describing the season as "character building" and acknowledging the challenges of maintaining such high-level consistency in NASCAR's top series.
