M25 Weekend Closure Set to Impact England vs Albania Match Traffic
National highways warns of potential traffic disruption as England's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Albania at Wembley Stadium coincides with planned M25 closure.
The M25 will be closed between junctions 10 (Wisley) and 11 (A320 Chertsey) from 9pm on Friday 21 March until 6am on Monday 24 March for bridge demolition works. This closure overlaps with England's match, which kicks off at 7:45pm on Friday.

Important travel advice for match attendees:
- Consider using public transport instead of driving
- Plan alternative routes if driving is essential
- Follow official diversion routes rather than sat-nav suggestions
- Allow significant extra journey time
- Only travel if absolutely necessary
RAC Breakdown spokesperson Alice Simpson advises: "With junctions 10 to 11 shutting just before the sold-out England game finishes, heavy congestion is almost inevitable for those traveling back to Sussex and Surrey. We encourage football fans to seek alternative routes where possible or use public transport to minimise queuing in traffic."
The closure is expected to cause more significant disruption than previous closures, based on recent traffic patterns. This particularly affects those traveling to or from Gatwick and Heathrow airports, as well as weekend visitors to London.
Before traveling, drivers should:
- Check vehicle oil and coolant levels
- Ensure proper tire inflation
- Plan routes in advance
- Consider postponing non-essential journeys
- Allow for substantial additional travel time
