This extension builds upon Piastri's previous contract from 2023, which had already kept him with the team through 2026. The new deal comes after his impressive performance last season, where he secured his first two race victories and helped McLaren win the constructors' championship.

"It's a great feeling knowing that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision," said Piastri. "The journey we've gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible." He emphasized his pride in representing the legendary team and his hunger to maintain their position at the front of the grid.

The extension follows Lando Norris's long-term commitment made 12 months ago. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown believes the pair forms Formula 1's strongest driver lineup, praising Piastri's talent, work ethic, and cultural fit within the team.

Team Principal Andrea Stella highlighted Piastri's impressive talent, determination, and work ethic, stating that alongside Norris, McLaren now has its long-term driver lineup secured to continue pushing forward. The team views this extension as a symbol of their belief and trust in Piastri's abilities and their shared ambition for future championships.

Entering his home race weekend, Piastri is considered one of the favorites for the 2025 drivers' title, building on McLaren's recent success and progression in Formula 1.
