After another dangerous flip during the Daytona 500, Ryan Preece has issued a stark warning to NASCAR about driver safety during superspeedway races.

The incident occurred with five laps remaining when Christopher Bell, leading the outside lane, was turned into the wall after contact from Cole Custer. Preece, running around 12th position, had nowhere to avoid the collision. His car launched nose-first into the air, never touching down before flipping onto its roof and sliding across the banking.

"I don't know if it's the diffuser or what that makes these cars like a sheet of plywood when you walk out on a windy day," Preece explained. "When the car took off and it got real quiet, all I thought about was my daughter. I'm lucky to walk away, but we're getting really close to somebody not being able to."

This marks Preece's second airborne incident at Daytona in less than two years. In summer 2023, he experienced a violent barrel roll after being spun on the backstretch. That incident prompted NASCAR to remove all grass from the backstretch area.

Despite leading six laps in his BuildSubmarines.com Ford Mustang, Preece finished 32nd. He attributed the crash to the aggressive racing typical of the final laps at Daytona, where drivers must push hard for position. The incident was among the night's largest wrecks, though Preece was the only driver to flip during the 500.
