Andretti Global's Kyle Kirkwood notes the importance of this test, especially with the new hybrid system implementation: "There's a lot of learning that you have to do prior to the season, that you only get essentially one day of testing to figure out."

Key Hybrid System Updates:

  • Chevrolet and Honda will test new deployment strategies for the energy recovery systems (ERS)
  • Current system provides 60hp peak power boost
  • Plans to extend deployment duration of the supercapacitor-based hybrids
  • Previous setup reserved 30% battery capacity for self-starting
  • New approach will allocate more charge for performance boosts

If successful at Sebring, the modified hybrid deployment strategy could debut at the St. Petersburg season opener.
