This announcement marks a continued commitment from Stellantis in Formula E through the Maserati brand, which first entered the series in Season 9 (2022-23). The Italian manufacturer has already secured two race wins during their participation.
Maserati CEO Santo Ficili emphasized that Formula E serves as both a prestigious platform and a crucial development ground for electric mobility technology. The timing coincides with Maserati's 100th year in racing, reinforcing their longstanding motorsport heritage.
Key benefits of Maserati's Formula E involvement include:
- Development of cutting-edge EV technologies
- Direct transfer of racing technology to road cars
- Enhanced customer engagement for their Folgore electric range
- Advancement of powertrain efficiency and battery technology
The Maserati-badged Stellantis powertrain will continue to be developed at their Motorsport base in Versailles, France. However, the team's operational structure for GEN4 remains under consideration.
Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP Stellantis Motorsport, highlighted Formula E as the ideal laboratory for improving powertrain efficiency, range, and fast-charging capabilities - technologies that will directly benefit their road-going vehicles.
Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds welcomed Maserati's commitment, noting the unique value of combining a historic racing brand with the future of electric mobility. With five manufacturers now confirmed, only Mahindra remains to declare their GEN4 intentions among current participants.
The decision regarding DS's continued involvement in Formula E remains open, with Stellantis confirming they will field at least four cars in the championship, though brand allocation is yet to be determined.
