Previously associated with McLaren's driver development program in 2024, Hirakawa gained F1 experience during FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and subsequent young driver test with Haas. His move to Alpine marks the end of his McLaren relationship, while his future involvement with Haas remains uncertain.

At Alpine, Hirakawa will join Paul Aron in handling simulator duties and previous car testing (TPC) responsibilities. His extensive racing background in WEC, Super Formula, and Super GT adds valuable experience to Alpine's driver roster.

"It is an honor to be joining BWT Alpine Formula 1 team," said Hirakawa. "The opportunity to drive in Free Practice 1 at my home Grand Prix, along with testing previous cars, represents the pinnacle for any race driver."

Alpine team principal Oliver Oakes emphasized the strategic value of Hirakawa's diverse racing experience: "His addition brings a diverse range of racing experience to our current roster. His role will be crucial in providing team support through our TPC program and simulator work as we prepare for the new season."
