Chang, who has served as a Liberty Media director since March 2021, replaces outgoing president and CEO Greg Maffei. The executive committee he joins includes John Malone, vice chairman Dob Bennett, and Chase Carey. Domenicali will report to a subset of this committee, comprising Chang, Bennett, and Carey, a move that sources suggest will give the F1 chief more operational freedom.
With extensive experience at companies including EverPass Media, NBA, DIRECTV, Scripps, Charter, and TCI, Chang brings over 25 years of industry expertise to the role. John Malone, Liberty's chairman, praised Chang's leadership style and global perspective as ideal qualities for leading Liberty's next phase of growth.
In his initial statement, Chang emphasized the importance of Formula 1 in Liberty's portfolio, alongside other priorities such as:
- Optimizing the portfolio structure with Liberty Live split-off
- Supporting F1 and MotoGP post-acquisition growth
- Maintaining Liberty's long-term investment approach while remaining agile for new opportunities
The leadership change comes during a period of strong growth for Formula 1, with Chang committed to continuing this positive momentum and investing in the sport's future.
