The 20-year-old Argentine impressed during his brief stint with Williams in 2024, scoring five points in his first four races despite experiencing some crashes in the final rounds. His performance caught the attention of multiple teams, with Alpine ultimately securing his services.

Alpine's executive advisor Flavio Briatore emphasized Colapinto's status as one of motorsport's top young talents, noting his surprising and impressive Formula 1 debut. The signing strengthens Alpine's pool of young drivers for future development.

Colapinto expressed gratitude to Williams for helping him achieve his Formula 1 dreams and enthusiasm for his new role with Alpine. As Argentina's first F1 race driver in 23 years, he brought significant attention from his home country to the sport.

The move could impact Alpine's current rookie Jack Doohan, who was previously confirmed for the 2025 race lineup. Briatore has indicated the team won't hesitate to make driver changes if performance expectations aren't met.

Williams team principal James Vowles supported the transfer, acknowledging it as Colapinto's best opportunity for securing a race seat in 2025 or 2026. With Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz as their main drivers, Williams views this as a strategic move that aligns with their academy's mission of developing future F1 talent.
