Billy VanInwegen Ready for Fifth Chili Bowl Challenge - DTD Exclusive
Billy VanInwegen, known for his success in Empire Super Sprints and Modified racing throughout the Northeast, returns to the prestigious Chili Bowl in Tulsa, OK for his fifth competition appearance.
Race official waves checkered flag
VanInwegen brings impressive experience to the world's largest Midget event, having previously reached the C Main on Saturday night twice - a notable achievement among over 300 competing drivers, especially for someone who races Midgets just once annually.
Running in a Steve Buckwalter machine, VanInwegen completed successful practice sessions on Sunday, preparing for Tuesday night qualifying. He acknowledges the event's unique challenges, including the intense competition level and the crucial passing points format that makes heat race performance essential.
"Walking into the building for the first time was an adrenaline rush," VanInwegen recalls. "I signed in for my pit pass standing between Jac Haudenschild and Danny Laskowski. That set the tone for how special this event is."
Despite the pressure, VanInwegen maintains a measured approach: "It's just like any other race. You go into it with a good mindset and ready to take anything that it may throw at you."
Looking ahead to 2025, VanInwegen will drive Joe Barbagallo's #4 Modified at Orange County Fairgrounds and select events, while continuing his Sprint Car racing career with a focus on maximizing victories and enjoying the sport.
The combination of his diverse racing background, previous Chili Bowl experience, and methodical approach positions VanInwegen as a notable competitor in this year's event.
