During his first practice session, Williamson faced initial challenges as he attempted to apply his Modified racing techniques to the midget car. This approach resulted in engine issues and difficulty managing the track's cushion. However, he showed marked improvement in his second session by adapting his driving style, focusing on utilizing the right rear tire more effectively.

The Modified champion acknowledged the unique learning experience and anticipates the different dynamics of racing alongside other cars in this new format. This marks Williamson's first venture into the renowned Chili Bowl competition, representing a significant departure from his usual racing environment.
