Cadillac's F1 Entry for 2026 Season Receives Final Green Light
Cadillac has secured final approval to enter Formula 1 in 2026, marking a significant expansion of the grid to 11 teams. The entry represents General Motors' works team, established in partnership with TWG Global, evolving from the initial Andretti Cadillac project approved by the FIA in 2023.

The team's approval comes after extensive negotiations with Formula One Management (FOM), which initially had concerns about the power unit strategy. FOM sought guarantees that GM would commit to building its own power unit, ensuring the entry would be a full constructor rather than a customer team.
TWG Motorsports will operate the team, having already recruited over 300 employees across facilities in:
- Indianapolis
- Charlotte
- Warren (United States)
- Silverstone (UK)
These teams focus on crucial areas including aerodynamics, chassis development, component development, software, and vehicle dynamics simulation.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali welcomed the commitment from General Motors, highlighting it as a positive demonstration of the sport's evolution. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who championed grid expansion since 2022, described it as a transformative moment that aligns with new FIA 2026 regulations.
The Cadillac Formula 1 Team will participate in discussions for the new Concorde Agreement, which governs commercial relationships between teams and the sport from 2026 onwards. This historic entry represents the first successful expansion of the F1 grid in several years, bringing American automotive expertise to the highest level of motorsport.
