Dramatic Fuel Drama Hands Woolridge Surprise VP Challenge Victory at COTA

Jonathan Woolridge secured an unexpected victory in the 45-minute IMSA VP Racing SportsCar Challenge at Circuit of The Americas after race leaders Oscar Tunjo and Valentino Catalano ran out of fuel on the final lap.

Racing his No. 54 MLT Motorsports Ligier JS P320, Woolridge inherited the lead when both Gebhardt Intralogistics Motorsports Duqueine cars unexpectedly stopped on track. The victory marks Woolridge's second career win, following his 2023 triumph at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Key Race Outcomes:

  • Brian Thienes finished second and won Bronze Cup in the P3 class
  • Mirco Schultis secured third place in P3
  • Catalano maintains championship lead with 960 points, Woolridge moves to second with 900

In GTDX class, Jake Walker claimed his first victory in the Turner Motorsport BMW M4 GT3, finishing just 0.429 seconds behind overall winner Woolridge. AJ Muss took second place, while points leader Adam Adelson recovered from an early spin to finish third.

GSX class saw Kiko Porto continue his dominance, securing his third consecutive victory in the No. 8 RAFA Racing Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Steven Clemons and Ian Porter completed an all-Toyota podium, with Porter also claiming Bronze Cup honors.
