Ferrari AF Corse's No. 51 499P and BMW Team WRT's No. 15 M Hybrid V8 achieved identical lap times of 1m31.040s during Free Practice 2 at the 6 Hours of Imola. Both Antonio Giovinazzi and Dries Vanthoor set these matching times early in the 90-minute dry session.

This rare occurrence mirrors a similar event from 2014 when Porsche and Toyota matched times to the thousandth in Shanghai qualifying. Alpine's No. 36 secured third place with 1m31.283s, while the Qatar-winning No. 50 Ferrari and No. 20 BMW rounded out the top five with times of 1m31.394s and 1m31.518s respectively.

The Hypercar class demonstrated exceptional competitiveness, with the top 11 cars finishing within one second of each other. Porsche and Toyota also managed to secure positions in the top 10.

In LMGT3, AKKODIS ASP dominated with their Lexus RC F GT3s claiming the top two spots. The No. 87, driven by Jose Maria Lopez, set the fastest time of 1m42.944s - the only sub-1m43s lap in the category. The team's No. 78 secured second place with 1m43.063s, followed by WRT's No. 46 BMW M4 in third with 1m43.186s.

The session proceeded without interruption, with Vista AF Corse's Ferrari 296 and Proton Competition Mustang completing the LMGT3 top five. The 18-car field showed tight competition with only 1.7s separating all competitors. Free Practice 3 is scheduled for 10:40am Saturday.
