Formula E will introduce a new 40-minute rookie practice session ahead of the Jeddah E-Prix on Thursday, February 13. The session aims to provide opportunities for drivers who haven't previously competed in Formula E.

Key details about the rookie session:

  • Teams must nominate one driver each
  • Cars must use different numbers from race entries
  • Driver nominations must be submitted seven days before the test
  • Only one car per team is allowed

Alberto Longo, Formula E's co-Founder and chief championship officer, emphasizes this initiative follows the successful women's test in Jarama last November, demonstrating the series' commitment to developing future racing talent.

The Jeddah event marks several significant changes:

  • Moves from Diriyah to the Jeddah Formula 1 circuit
  • Introduces in-race charging
  • Features mandatory 30-second pit stops in one race
  • Pit stops will provide 10% additional usable energy

Pablo Martino, FIA's head of Formula E, highlights the importance of these sessions in developing new talent, noting that many current Formula E stars gained their first experience through similar rookie opportunities.

This initiative builds on Formula E's previous efforts to support emerging drivers, including last year's rookie testing day after the Berlin E-Prix.
