Genesis is set to make its FIA WEC debut in 2026 with its GMR-001 LMDh prototype, partnering with ORECA for chassis development. The manufacturer will first gain experience in 2025 through IDEC Sport in the ELMS while developing their race car.

The team has secured two high-profile drivers: Andre Lotterer, the reigning FIA WEC Hypercar Drivers' World Champion, and Pipo Derani, a two-time IMSA champion. Both drivers bring valuable experience to Genesis's nascent racing program.

For Lotterer, 43, this move comes after his successful stint with Porsche. He views this as likely his final major career move and aims to contribute significantly to building Genesis into a competitive force. The current regulatory environment makes it more feasible for new manufacturers to enter and compete effectively compared to the previous LMP1 Hybrid era.

Derani, 31, made the bold decision to leave Cadillac and Action Express mid-season in 2024 to pursue this WEC opportunity. After achieving multiple victories in IMSA, including wins at Sebring and Daytona, he sought a new challenge in helping build a program from the ground up.

While neither driver will compete in top-class racing during 2025, they will be heavily involved in simulator work and track testing as Genesis prepares for its 2026 debut. The program, led by team principal Cyril Abiteboul, is committed through the end of the current regulation cycle, with both drivers focused on helping Genesis establish itself as a competitive force in endurance racing.
