Historic Mazda RX-7 GTO Returns to Daytona for 2025 Racing Season
The Mazda Heritage Collection's iconic 1991 RX-7 GTO will make its return to Daytona International Speedway for the 63rd Rolex 24 At Daytona weekend, January 23-25, 2025.

The car will compete in Historic Sportscar Racing's (HSR) first-ever event during IMSA's season opener. This invitation-only competition features historic cars from IMSA's first three decades of racing.
The featured 1991 Mazda RX-7 GTO, chassis 001, holds significant historical value:
- Built by Fabcar with a 13J four-rotor engine
- Achieved Mazda RX-7's 100th win
- Secured the 1991 IMSA GTO Championship
- Finished second in GTS class at 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans
Veteran Mazda driver Tom Long will pilot the RX-7 GTO during the event. The schedule includes:
- Thursday, January 23: Practice session
- Friday, January 24: Qualifying and qualifying race
- Saturday, January 25: 30-minute race before the Rolex 24
The weekend also marks significant Mazda milestones:
- Launch of the 35th Anniversary Mazda Miata
- Opening races of the 2025 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Championship's 20th season
This heritage showcase coincides with the current Mazda MX-5 Cup series, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness both historic and contemporary Mazda motorsport engineering.
