IMSA Names 12 Finalists for 2026-27 Diverse Driver Development Scholarship

IMSA has announced 12 finalists for the 2026-27 Diverse Driver Scholarship program, with the winner set to receive benefits worth up to $300,000 for competing in one of four IMSA-sanctioned series: WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, Michelin Pilot Challenge, VP Racing SportsCar Challenge, or Mustang Challenge.

The diverse group includes seven women and five men, split between six new applicants and six returning finalists. Candidates must complete IMSA-developed modules covering marketing, business development, personal branding, media training, and nutrition. They must submit a business plan by August 8th and secure a full-season ride before the winner announcement.

New Applicants:

  • Julian DaCosta (17): MX-5 Cup competitor with extensive racing experience
  • Max Hewitt (23): FR Americas and GT4 racer, Aston Martin Drivers Academy member
  • Sally Mott (19): MX-5 Cup Women's Initiative Scholarship winner
  • Riley Pegram (20): IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR driver
  • Ashlyn Speed (18): Mazda Women in Motorsports Initiative Scholarship winner
  • Joao Vergara (17): Junior open-wheel racer with engineering experience

Returning Finalists:

  • Andre Castro (26): NASCAR Xfinity Series driver and Team USA Scholarship winner
  • Sabre Cook (30): Porsche Carrera Cup competitor and mechanical engineer
  • Ernie Francis Jr. (27): Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America champion
  • Nicky Hays (23): Multiple academy program participant and sports car racer
  • Christina Lam (36): IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge TCR competitor and STEM advocate
  • Westin Workman (20): MX-5 Cup Rookie of the Year with multiple series experience
