Through the EM Marshaling System, IndyCar has incorporated a vital safety enhancement for the 2025 season that alerts drivers to local yellow flags on road and street courses.

The system utilizes LED panels positioned at corners where volunteer corner workers monitor race activity. When these workers wave a yellow flag for incidents in their area, they simultaneously trigger the light panel to match the flag's color. Starting in 2025, this action will also send an immediate alert directly to the drivers' cockpits.

Previously, dashboard caution lights only activated when race control issued full-course cautions. The new system expands this functionality to include local cautions, empowering corner workers to instantly warn drivers about sector-specific issues before they reach race control.

This enhancement is particularly significant as local cautions occur more frequently than full-course cautions. By displaying warnings directly in the drivers' line of sight via steering wheel lights, the system aims to improve safety awareness and response times, especially in scenarios like the Turn 1 incident at Toronto last year.

The update represents a proactive approach to driver safety, ensuring more immediate communication of potential hazards during race conditions.
