Lola Cars, which returned to motorsport in 2024 after a 12-year hiatus, currently competes in Formula E's Season 11 in partnership with Yamaha and Abt. Herbert's connection to Lola dates back to his early career, having grown up around their cars in Formula Ford, sports cars, and F1.
Herbert expressed enthusiasm about joining the iconic brand, stating his commitment to contributing to both Lola's renewed success and sustainable motorsport's future. Till Bechtolsheimer, Lola Cars chairman, highlighted that Herbert's experience will also benefit the team's current Formula E drivers, Lucas di Grassi and Zane Maloney.

The appointment connects Herbert with Lola's motorsport director Mark Preston, whom he previously worked with at Arrows in 2001. Herbert brings an impressive racing pedigree, including a 24 Hours of Le Mans victory with Mazda (1991) and a Le Mans Endurance Series title with Audi Sport UK (2004).
Lola Cars has committed to Formula E's GEN4 era and plans to explore electrification, hydrogen, and sustainable technologies. COO Keith Smout emphasized that Herbert's global recognition and extensive motorsport connections will be crucial for the company's future development and success.
