Lundqvist Opens Up About Surprise Ganassi Exit Ahead of IndyCar Opener
Taking a leadership role in his public messaging, 2024 IndyCar Rookie of the Year Linus Lundqvist has addressed his unexpected departure from Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) and his current racing status ahead of the St. Petersburg season opener.

Despite signing a multi-year agreement with CGR and The American Legion for 2024, Lundqvist was notified in January 2025 that his contract was being terminated as the team downsized from five cars to three. This came after a successful rookie season that included:
- A pole position at Road America
- Podium finishes at Barber and St. Louis
- The 2024 Rookie of the Year award
The 2022 Indy Lights champion confirmed he will attend the St. Petersburg race weekend, though not as a competitor. He's currently working through contractual provisions with CGR while exploring other racing opportunities, preferably in IndyCar where he aims to continue building on his open-wheel racing success.
Lundqvist expressed gratitude to The American Legion family and his supporters while maintaining hope for a quick return to competitive racing. The situation with CGR remains under discussion as both parties work toward a resolution.
