The all-new Range Rover Velar is set to become the brand's first ground-up electric vehicle, with testing already underway ahead of its 2026 launch. This luxury SUV will compete directly with the Porsche Macan EV and BMW iX.

The new Velar EV retains the distinctive styling of its predecessor, featuring the signature coupe-like roofline and muscular stance that made the original so popular. Recent spy shots reveal swept-back headlights, an imposing functional grille, and taillights similar to the Range Rover Sport.

Technical specifications remain under wraps, but the vehicle is expected to feature an 800-volt electrical system enabling ultra-rapid charging at around 350kW. This could potentially add approximately 200 miles of range in just 10 minutes. To remain competitive with the Macan EV, the total range is likely to exceed 350 miles.

Unlike the upcoming electric versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, the Velar EV will use an entirely new platform specifically designed for electric vehicles. It won't share components with the forthcoming Jaguar Type 00, as Jaguar is developing its own separate platform.

The new Range Rover Velar EV will arrive after the launch of the Range Rover EV and electric Range Rover Sport, with sales beginning in 2026. While pricing hasn't been confirmed, expect a significant increase over the current model's £55,000 starting price.
