Lando Norris dismissed Max Verstappen's claim that he could have won the F1 championship earlier in a McLaren this season, suggesting the Red Bull champion "should start doing comedy."

The comments came after Verstappen, who secured his fourth consecutive drivers' championship in Las Vegas, stated he would have clinched the title sooner driving for either McLaren or Ferrari.

Norris addressed the dynamics of Verstappen's situation at Red Bull, noting both advantages and disadvantages of not having a competitive teammate:

Pros for Verstappen:

  • No internal team pressure
  • No direct competition from teammate
  • More comfortable racing environment

Cons for Verstappen:

  • Must handle development work alone
  • Limited comparative data for car setup
  • Fewer opportunities for A/B testing
  • Less valuable team feedback overall

Regarding Red Bull's team performance, Norris acknowledged that the constructor's championship might have been secured earlier with two drivers performing at Verstappen's level. However, he emphasized that Verstappen has consistently outperformed all teammates throughout his career.

"Red Bull probably would have won the constructors' if they had two drivers as good as Max," Norris stated, while maintaining his disagreement with Verstappen's claim about winning in a McLaren.

The discussion comes as McLaren heads into the final races with a chance to secure the constructors' title, highlighting the team's competitive progression throughout the season.
