The McLaren driver clinched pole on his first flying lap in SQ3, acknowledging that Lusail feels like "the quickest circuit of the year." Despite making mistakes on his second attempt, his initial lap proved sufficient for pole position.

Wind conditions played a significant role in the qualifying session, with gusty conditions affecting car stability. However, Norris noted that overall track conditions were superior compared to last season, making the circuit both physically demanding and faster.

The final sector proved particularly challenging, with most cars approaching flat-out speeds in multiple corners. Norris highlighted the difficulty in building confidence throughout the lap, especially with tires not immediately at optimal performance.

McLaren's strong showing extended to teammate Oscar Piastri, who qualified third behind George Russell. The team aims for a one-two finish in Saturday's Sprint, though Norris expects strong competition from Mercedes and Ferrari.

"Our target is one-two," Norris stated, "Probably expecting an exciting one for everyone watching." This result positions McLaren favorably in their pursuit of the constructors' championship.
