The race began with both McLarens on the front row, but tension mounted when Oscar Piastri was hit by Max Verstappen at Turn 1. Meanwhile, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc staged an impressive comeback from the back row to reach the podium, adding pressure to McLaren's championship aspirations.

"Today was a very special day for all of us," Norris reflected. "It was ours to lose, and when Oscar got taken out in Turn 1, my heart sank. But I knew if I kept my head down and stayed focused, I could deliver what we needed."

Despite a persistent challenge from Carlos Sainz, keeping the gap to just 4.2 seconds in the early stages, Norris maintained his composure to secure the historic win. Throughout the race, he monitored the situation on trackside screens, particularly aware of Leclerc's rapid progress through the field.

The victory marks McLaren's return to championship glory after more than two decades. "For me to be part of that, for Oscar to be part of it, is something we're incredibly proud of," Norris said. "This is the biggest reward you can give back to everyone who designs the car, builds the car, gets the partners; everyone has played such a big part."

While disappointed that teammate Piastri couldn't join him on the podium for a McLaren 1-2 finish, Norris emphasized that the team would celebrate together, acknowledging Piastri's strong contribution throughout the season.
