The race centered around tire management on Shanghai's newly resurfaced track. Most drivers started on medium compounds, initiating pit stops around lap 10. Piastri maintained his advantage after switching to hard tires on lap 14, while Norris briefly dropped positions before recovering to second place by lap 19.

Norris faced late-race drama with brake issues, forcing him to manage his pace carefully. Despite this, McLaren secured their second one-two finish in as many seasons, with Piastri winning by 9.7 seconds. Russell completed the podium for Mercedes.

Max Verstappen finished fourth after an impressive late-race pass on Charles Leclerc, demonstrating superior tire management despite lacking podium pace. Lewis Hamilton secured sixth place following his sprint race victory.

Notable performances included Esteban Ocon's seventh place for Haas and rookie Oliver Bearman scoring points in tenth. Post-race disqualifications affected several drivers, including both Ferraris and Pierre Gasly, for technical infractions.
