Oscar Piastri aims to secure McLaren's first constructors' championship since 1998 at this weekend's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. McLaren currently leads Ferrari by 21 points, needing 24 points from Piastri and teammate Lando Norris to claim their ninth constructors' title.

Having secured victories in Hungary and Azerbaijan during his sophomore season, Piastri currently sits fourth in the drivers' standings. The Australian driver expressed pride in joining McLaren's prestigious lineup, which includes legendary champions like James Hunt, Nicky Lauda, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, and Lewis Hamilton.

"It's very, very cool to be a part of McLaren," Piastri reflected. "When you look back to before I was born and the history of the team, it is very incredible to be joining the list of McLaren drivers now and the list of world champions that we've had as a team."

Piastri acknowledges the demanding nature of Formula 1, noting that driving represents only half of their commitments, with media obligations, sponsor events, and extensive travel filling the remainder. The recent tripleheader, moving from Europe to Las Vegas and across the world, has been particularly challenging.

The 2024 season has featured unprecedented competition, with more than seven drivers securing multiple race wins. Piastri credits his success to extensive preparation and collaboration with the team, emphasizing the importance of both driver skill and car performance.

Looking ahead to 2025, Piastri aims to contend for both world championships while focusing on improving his qualifying performance. "I think if I can tidy up qualifying and start higher up in most races, that would make life easier. That's probably the biggest area to improve on for next year."
