Racing powerhouse Porsche Penske Motorsport (PPM) is carefully considering driver options for their third 963 Hypercar entry at the upcoming Le Mans 24 Hours, following their recent victory at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.

With eight confirmed drivers in their Hypercar/GTP roster, PPM needs one additional driver to complete the lineup for their third car. Porsche Motorsport Vice President Thomas Laudenbach confirms they have numerous qualified candidates, including Formula E drivers with endurance racing experience and skilled GT drivers.

The third car's lineup is expected to include IMSA GTP champion Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, alongside the two full-time FIA WEC entries:

  • No. 5: Julien Andlauer, Michael Christensen, Mathieu Jaminet
  • No. 6: Matt Campbell, Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel, who tested the Porsche 963 last March, is among the potential candidates for the vacant position.

PPM Managing Director Jonathan Diuguid revealed that the selected driver might also participate in the WEC race at Spa-Francorchamps in May, as the event conflicts with IMSA's Laguna Seca round. The team will finalize their decision in the coming months to allow for proper simulator preparation.

Additional confirmed plans include:

  • Matt Campbell joining the No. 6 Porsche 963 for Qatar 1812 km and Imola races
  • Mathieu Jaminet partnering with Andlauer and Christensen in the No. 5 car
  • Three-driver lineups for both Hypercars in Bahrain
  • Potential three-driver configurations for summer races due to climate challenges

The team will use this expanded program to pursue their record-extending 20th overall victory at Le Mans.
