DXDT's Corvette suffered a dramatic exit when Charlie Eastwood's car caught fire near the Tri-Oval. Eastwood escaped unharmed, with quick intervention from the fire crew bringing the eighth safety car period of the race.
After the restart, Colin Braun maintained the lead in the No. 60 Acura MSR, followed by Matt Campbell in the No. 6 Penske Porsche. Nick Tandy moved the No. 7 Porsche into third, passing Kevin Magnussen's No. 24 BMW, which later lost fourth position to Will Stevens in the No. 10 WTR Cadillac.

Notable retirements include the No. 5 Proton Porsche (suspension), the Lamborghini (mechanical), the No. 40 Cadillac (crash), and the Cetilar Ferrari (electronics). The No. 73 Pratt Miller ORECA and No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus have returned to racing after repairs.
