The race saw early drama when Meyer Shank Racing's No. 93 Acura ARX-06 encountered critical left-rear suspension failure at 4h8m. Driver Alex Palou was forced to retire at turn six, ending a promising run that had seen them lead portions of the race.

Kobayashi's dramatic move to the lead came after the race's second full course yellow, executing a high-risk maneuver along the wall at Speedway Turn 1. He seized the advantage over Kevin Estre's No. 6 Penske Porsche 963, who was caught in GTD traffic.

Current standings show Estre in second, Felipe Drugovich's No. 31 Whelen Cadillac in third, and Laurens Vanthoor's No. 7 Porsche in fourth. BMW M Team RLL holds fifth and tenth positions in GTP, with Robin Frijns leading in the No. 25 BMW M Hybrid V8.

In LMP2, Dane Cameron maintains a narrow 1-second lead in the No. 99 AO Racing car over Mathias Beche's No. 52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports entry. Felipe Fraga holds third, defending against Toby Sowery.

GTD PRO sees Jesse Krohn's No. 48 BMW M4 GT3 EVO in front after a strong restart, leading Chris Mies in the No. 65 Mustang GT3 by 4 seconds. The GTD class remains highly competitive, with David Fumanelli's No. 70 Inception Racing Ferrari leading, followed by Ayhancan Guven in the No. 120 Wright Motosports Porsche.
