Conflicting views emerged regarding restarts during the 30-lap Modified feature event at Volusia Speedway Park, with both Matt Sheppard and Alex Yankowski expressing concerns about each other's restart tactics.

Sheppard, drawing from lessons learned from veterans Billy Decker and Tim Fuller, emphasized the traditional approach where the leader sets the pace. He noted, "I wasn't trying to play a chess game out there on restarts. I just want normal restarts." He also pointed out that current restart rules lack penalties for jumping, with the only consequence being a restart.

Yankowski, who finished second, countered with concerns about fairness and sportsmanship. "Playing games on restarts isn't the way to win. It's an unfair way of racing," he stated, suggesting that Sheppard's restart approach wasn't sporting.

This tension between the drivers is expected to continue throughout the 2025 DIRTcar Nationals, as both competitors are likely to maintain their positions at the front of the field.
