Matt Covington, a 34-year-old veteran Sprint Car racer from Glenpool, OK, is setting his sights on his first American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) National Tour championship in 2025 after 12 years of competition.

Covington's impressive track record includes multiple top-5 championship finishes, including a runner-up position to Jason Martin in 2023. He's demonstrated remarkable consistency, qualifying for 31 of 32 main events and securing 29 top-10 finishes last season—the most of any driver.

"We're good at consistency," Covington explains. "We've just got to win more races. Winning one, two, or three races ain't enough. We need to win five or six races while maintaining consistency to be championship contenders."

Despite going winless in 2024—his first winless season since 2016—Covington remains optimistic about his chances in 2025. Following recent arm surgery and recovery, he's entering the new season with renewed focus and determination.

The veteran racer praised ASCS's new ownership under World Racing Group, highlighting improved resources and media coverage. "The biggest difference I've seen is the manpower," Covington notes. "We've got a photographer, media person... there's a guy for everything."

Covington will begin his championship pursuit at the 2025 season opener at Volusia Speedway Park during the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, scheduled for January 30–February 1.
