Wehrlein: Sao Paulo Formula E Race Set for Pack-Style Racing Action
Reigning Formula E champion Pascal Wehrlein anticipates another peloton-style race at the Sao Paulo E-Prix, emphasizing that qualifying position may not significantly impact the final race outcome.

Despite new technical changes for the season, including grippier but faster-degrading tires and four-wheel-drive Attack Mode, Wehrlein expects the race dynamics to remain largely familiar. "Qualifying is not very important," he stated during the pre-race press conference. "This track is very energy sensitive, so qualifying only matters for the three points you can gain."
The TAG Heuer Porsche driver highlighted that while the new Attack Mode system will introduce different tactical elements, the fundamental energy management strategy will persist. This was evident in last year's race, where Sam Bird won from sixth position, overtaking in the final corners, while pole-sitter Wehrlein finished fourth.
Key changes for this season include:
- Four-wheel-drive during Attack Mode periods
- New tires with increased grip but higher degradation
- Enhanced overtaking opportunities during Attack Mode
Wehrlein emphasized that the four-wheel-drive feature will create the most significant strategic opportunities, as it won't be available throughout the entire race. While tire management will affect all drivers equally, the selective availability of four-wheel-drive will introduce new tactical considerations for teams and drivers.
