Wickens Takes Next Step in Racing Journey with IMSA Corvette Debut
Robert Wickens completed his first test laps in a specially adapted Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R at Sebring International Raceway, marking his upcoming return to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with DXDT Racing at Long Beach.

The Corvette features a cutting-edge Bosch EBS hand control system developed by Pratt Miller, which Wickens found immediately comfortable. "It feels like it belongs in the car," he noted, highlighting significant improvements over his previous TCR racing experience.
Wickens has been preparing extensively using his home simulator, focusing on throttle control techniques. He uses his left hand for 98% of throttle application while managing gear shifts with both hands, though he plans to develop more two-handed throttle control.
The transition from front-wheel drive TCR cars to the rear-wheel drive Corvette has required adjustment, particularly in managing throttle control during oversteer moments. Wickens is also adapting to the car's traction control system, working to fine-tune his throttle application precision.
Tommy Milner, Corvette Racing factory driver, will co-drive with Wickens at Long Beach. The intensive testing program has focused on:
- Refining brake system settings
- Adjusting spring rates
- Optimizing Bosch EBS software
- Understanding tire behavior over long runs
The hand control system's design allows for flexibility across different race cars and could potentially influence accessibility features in civilian vehicles. Wickens views this return to IMSA as a major milestone in his post-injury career, with aspirations for a full-time position in 2026 and future championship contention.
"Taking the green flag in Long Beach is going to be an enormous step forward," Wickens said, emphasizing his goal of competing at motorsport's highest levels again. "We're racing against the best cars and the best drivers in the whole sports car industry."
