The project, initially rejected in January 2024, has evolved significantly with GM committing to enter as both a team brand and future engine supplier. Liberty Media president Greg Maffei played a crucial role in developing these revised plans.

Key aspects of the agreement include:

  • GM/Cadillac will enter as the 11th F1 team in 2026
  • GM will develop its own power unit as an engine supplier
  • The team will operate under TWG Global's ownership
  • Mario Andretti will serve as a team board director

GM President Mark Reuss emphasized the company's commitment to competing with excellence and innovation in F1, viewing it as a global platform to showcase GM's engineering expertise.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali and FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem have both expressed full support for the project, highlighting GM's status as a major global brand and its potential contribution to the sport.

TWG Global, the parent company that owns Andretti Global, Wayne Taylor Racing, and Spire Motorsports, will manage the Cadillac F1 program. Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Global's motorsports businesses, confirmed their focus on bringing American innovation to Formula 1.

Mario Andretti, the 1978 world champion, shared his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "My first love was Formula 1 and now – 70 years later – the F1 paddock is still my happy place."

The entry marks a significant milestone for American involvement in Formula 1, with both F1 and GM expressing confidence in the value this partnership will bring to the championship.
