Despite signing a two-year contract extension in May, Perez's performance has declined significantly, scoring only 49 points in 16 races since the Miami Grand Prix. His recent struggles continued in Las Vegas, where he was eliminated in Q1 and finished tenth, unable to overtake Yuki Tsunoda.

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko highlighted the significant points gap between Perez and teammate Max Verstappen as a clear indicator of the problem. The shareholders will make their final decision after reviewing recommendations following the Abu Dhabi race.

Team Principal Christian Horner acknowledged Perez's strong drive in Las Vegas but expressed disappointment with the single point outcome, especially given McLaren's performance issues during the race. While Perez mounted a recovery drive, his poor qualifying position ultimately compromised his race result.

Horner remained diplomatic about driver decisions, noting that contractual matters remain private between the company and drivers involved. The team already has preliminary discussions with Perez regarding his future, but the final decision will come after the shareholders' meeting.
