During the three sessions, Sargeant demonstrated remarkable adaptability:

  • Posted second-fastest lap in the morning session
  • Led the early afternoon session
  • Finished third in the final, fastest session

The 23-year-old Floridian faced several challenges, including:

  • Adjusting to the heavier Dallara DW12 chassis
  • Learning a new track
  • Managing different weight distribution and center of gravity
  • Adapting to Firestone tires from Pirelli

"It was a good day and clearly it's quite a unique car to drive — quite different to most of the cars I've ever been in in the past," Sargeant noted, highlighting the tire management challenges at Thermal, where grip can significantly decrease within five laps.

The MSR team praised Sargeant's approachable demeanor and professional attitude. Despite having only four IndyCar seats remaining for the upcoming season, with just one offering professional compensation, Sargeant expressed interest in joining the series either as a full-time driver or stand-in.

"If there was an opportunity there to jump into a car, I would definitely do it," Sargeant stated, praising the positive atmosphere at MSR and the enjoyable testing experience.
