Abel Motorsports Withdraws from 2025 Indy 500 to Support Rookie Son
Abel Motorsports has withdrawn from entering the 2025 Indianapolis 500 to focus on supporting Jacob Abel, team owner Bill Abel's son and Dale Coyne Racing rookie, in his first Indy 500 attempt.
The team, which made its IndyCar debut at the 2023 Indy 500 with RC Enerson, will instead convert its unraced chassis from Chevrolet to Honda specification. This converted car will serve as a potential backup for Jacob Abel at Dale Coyne Racing.

This strategic decision comes after witnessing Dale Coyne rookie Nolan Siegel's struggles in 2024, where he failed to qualify after crashing and using a suboptimal backup car. With at least 34 entries expected for the 33 available starting positions in 2025, the team is prioritizing Jacob's success.
"Jacob is our priority and supporting him as a family is what we want to do in his first time there for the 500," Bill Abel explained to RACER. The team is currently completing preparations on their chassis, including body fit and various optimizations, to ensure it's ready if needed as a competitive backup option.
The team's previous Indy 500 car, used by RC Enerson, has been sold to PREMA Racing. Despite receiving interest from potential drivers looking to lease their current chassis, Abel Motorsports remains committed to supporting Jacob's rookie attempt at the Indianapolis 500.
